Matthew Smith

Viola, (Violin)

Matthew graduated from Newcastle University in Politics and History in 2007. Following that he obtained the Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course at Northumbria University and he now works as a solicitor at Samuel Phillips Law Firm in central Newcastle.

Matthew began playing the violin in 1995. Since then he has also attained high grades on the piano, and more recently taken up the viola. Additionally Matthew is a keen composer, and his debut compositions White Light and Two Little Rondos have both been performed by South Tyneside Senior Strings Orchestra.

Matthew has performed for many occasions at countless venues across the UK and Europe, and is a current member of both the South Tyneside Orchestra and the Newcastle University Symphony Orchestra. He also writes regularly for the Tyne Consort website on a range of musical subjects.
